What a visit includes
From idea to picture book: Making picture books seems magical, but it's actually a process of perseverance, creativity, and teamwork. T. L. walks students through the journey of creating a picture book step-by-step, showing kids that anyone can tell a story. Everyone becomes an author and illustrator: In this hands-on presentation, students don't just watch - they become authors and illustrators! Students draw their own illustration, collaborate with T. L. to dream up an idea for the next great picture book, and draw along as T. L. teaches them step-by-step how to draw one of his picture book characters! Read-aloud: T. L. reads from two of his books, his expressive storytelling bringing his characters to life, keeping audiences engaged from the first page to the last. Q&A with students: After the presentation, kids get the chance to ask any questions they want about writing, illustrating, book making, and more! The questions can range from silly to serious and T. L. does his best to answer as many as he can. Signed Books: T. L. works with schools ahead of the visit to give students the opportunity to purchase personally signed copies of his books to take home. Each presentation runs approximately 35–45 minutes, with student Q&A included in that time.
