Lisa Rogers
Award-winning author of picture book biographies that spotlight creative arts & former elementary educator
About Lisa
I became inspired to write for children during my career as an elementary library teacher. I fell in love with picture book biographies, and my students loved them, too. The arts are a big part of my life, and my books reflect that. They also highlight the role of noticing the world around us in developing creativity. My first published book, 16 Words: William Carlos Williams and "The Red Wheelbarrow," won awards and was highlighted by the New York Times. Next was the award-winning Beautiful Noise: The Music of John Cage, about the composer who believed all sounds were music; Joan Mitchell Paints a Symphony, about a heralded painter who brought emotions to her abstract work; and Woody's Words: Woodrow Wilson Rawls and Where the Red Fern Grows, about the author who taught himself to write by listening to the sounds around him. I've also written a sweet and funny rhyming picture book, Hound Won't Go, as well as a middle-grade nonfiction book about women artists, and two Little Golden Book biographies. I'm a marathon runner and painter, and I love talking about writing with children and encouraging them to write their own stories! My author visits are informative, inspiring, and interactive.
