Lija Fisher
Author of middle grade humorous adventure novels!
About Lija
Hello! I writes humorous adventure novels for 8-12 year olds. My debut novel, The Cryptid Catcher, was published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux. The book received a starred review from Booklist and was a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard selection. The sequel, The Cryptid Keeper, was a finalist for the Colorado Book Award in juvenile literature and was written while I was a Writer in Residence with the Aspen Words/Catto Shaw Foundation. I travel the country speaking at schools, libraries and Bigfoot conferences on the topic Cryptozoology for Kids, which explores the search for (and discovery of) legendary animals like the Loch Ness Monster. I love doing fun, interactive presentations that use the fantastical to get kids interested in very real things, like reading, exploration and science.

What educators say
“Lija Fisher had a wonderful and engaging presentation to kids this morning about her book CRYPTID CATCHER. She talked about mythological creatures from around the world, the scientific process, and the extinction of species. She had drawings, stories, and showed Big Foot's feet. The kids are so excited to read her book!”
“Lija had a wonderful presentation when she attended our school. Right away Lija grabbed the students attention with her wonderful story telling and explanation of her book. Our students found her personable and they connected with her right away. Every student in the room felt as if she was talking directly to them. Her book is perfect for intermediate students and we can’t wait to have Lija back when her next book is published!!”
