About Laura

Hi, I'm Laura Numeroff and I love books, school, libraries, teachers and librarians!! Maybe I wrote If You Give A Mouse A Cookie based on how I was at 6 years old in the Brooklyn Public Library- I couldn't ever just take one book home! I always wanted more picture books that I loved to read over and over again. Maybe that's why I've written nearly 50 books! My favorite part of being an author is visiting schools and libraries. I even built a library in Malawi, Africa for the students and the community to have access to books and computers. My books have been translated into over 15 languages and are read all over the world which overjoys this former little girl from Brooklyn who loved nothing more than curling up with as many books as she could carry home! PS. I still read 2 to 3 books a week. Isn't that incredible?

What educators say

“Hearing Laura talk about her own journey helped students understand that perseverance and hard work are essential parts of becoming a writer. Laura tells every child she meets that if you want to be an author, you have to read a lot of books and go to the library. I couldn't agree more.”

— Librarian Katherine Hartich, Old Trail School

What a visit includes

My 45 minute Powerpoint presentation starts with me reading If You Give A Mouse A Cookie along with the projected book pages. The rest of my presentation is the story of how I became a children's book author. I talk about my love of libraries, how my mother was a schoolteacher and I've always loved librarians and teachers for being instrumental in my lifelong love of books. My love of books and sharing my stories even led me to build a library in Malawi, Africa- which remains a highlight of my life. My presentation is all about the power of learning and never giving up. You never know where a great book will take you!
