About Katie
Katie Mazeika is an award-winning author and illustrator who can’t imagine a better job than making books and spending time with readers. She loves creating stories based on real people and events and likes to highlight disabled voices in her work. Katie’s school visits focus on both the writing and illustrating of picture books. They can include nonfiction research, story creation, and an open and honest discussion about disability. Katie’s honors include a 2026 SCBWI Crystal Kite Award (Honor) 2026 Charlotte Huck Award (Recommended Book), the 2025 Margaret Wise Brown Award (Silver Medal), Junior Library Guild Selection, Bank Street Books, Best Books 2023, CBC Best Trade Social Studies Book, Septima Clark Book Award, and Northern Lights Book Award.
