About Jody

Award-winning, middle grade and young adult author Jody Feldman had early thoughts of working as a treasure hunter, a codebreaker, a movie director, an inventor, and a medical researcher. Through a series of happenstances, she shifted gears and found she can have fun with any occupations and experiences through her characters. All her MG and YA books, filled with puzzles and mystery, have a positive sense of "I wish that would happen to me," even when they're working through some tough times. One of her biggest joys in life is speaking to students and educators about reading, writing, and turning things on their heads if they're not working out. She's done that herself. Jody's books have appeared on 26 state reading lists and have received, among other honors, the Georgia Children’s Book Award and the Grand Canyon Readers Award. She's had the privilege of traveling the country, not only talking about writing, but becoming inspired by even the youngest of students. And she's heard from so many sources that the students are inspired by her.

What educators say

“Thank you so much, Jody Feldman! Your visit will be talked about for years to come. Seeing students excited about reading and writing makes my heart so happy. Your fantastic large group presentation and small group writers’ workshop were incredible experiences for these students. You are a rock star!”

— Tracy Scaglione, Media Specialist, Dorsett Shoals Elementary, Douglasville, GA

“My kids were just going wild yesterday talking about all they learned from you. I think you have definitely changed some lives in a very positive way. Thank you!”

— Charlotte Johnson, Richardson, Texas

“As a teacher, I appreciated the message that Jody sent to our students . . . writing ideas are everywhere!! So many times we hear, I don’t have anything to write about!! Jody used imaginative examples, like the gym mat hanging on our wall. She told students that it could be anything, like a cover hiding a secret passageway that runs throughout the entire school!”

— Mary Jo Miller 6th Grade Language Arts , Belvidere South Middle School, Belvidere, IL

What a visit includes

Full-day school visits typically include three session: either assembly-style, smaller writing workshops, or a combination of both. Some of my topics: author’s journey, the writing process, character development, world-building, personal narrative, revision, and more. I always look forward to a lively Q&A. I’m happy to tailor any of my talks to fit your vision. Just ask!
