About Jilanne

I love sharing my sources of inspiration, and how I research, write, and revise my books. I think that critical thinking skills are key to creation, as is persistence and resilience, and the importance of believing in yourself and your unique voice. In my nonfiction picture books, I also hope to inspire wonder and curiosity about the natural world and to show how we're all connected. When I talk about HEARTLAND, I hope to inspire environmental activism and also generate empathy for kids who may struggle with making friends or staying focused, kids who may live with only one parent, kids whose parents struggle to make ends meet, and kids who may not always have the right words to express their feelings. I have a B.S. in engineering and an MFA in Creative Writing. I was a freelance writer and editor for over 20 years. Please visit my website for more information.
