About Jacquie
I am the author of two non-fiction books: Mighty Mac the Bridge That Michigan Built, and Whale Fall Cafe. We live in an amazing world filled with fascinating people and amazing creatures. I love sharing what I've learned with kids in language they can understand. The Mackinac Bridge is a miracle of engineering and determination. Once thought "impossible" Mighty Mac now unites Michigan's two peninsulas and carries millions of vehicles across the Straits every year. On the bottom of the ocean lies one of the most complex ecosystems on our planet: whale falls. The first one was discovered in 1987. Today the field of whale fall exploration leads to new discoveries every time a whale fall is visited. Children will love learning about bone-eating snot worms and hagfish and the gift that keeps on giving ( a whale's carcass.) My school visits focus on the science and history in my books, but I am also happy to talk to the students about researching a topic and my writing process if the teachers would like me to.
