“We were lucky enough to have George visit our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders, and they were fascinated by his story. They keep checking his book out of our library.”

Visit formats
What a visit includes
I offer presentations, workshops, and Q&As centered around the power of storytelling, being a writer, and the personal experiences that led me here! My visits can be a half-day or full-day, in-person or virtual, and I’m always happy to flex to the needs of your students. Ask me to see my main presentation, which focuses on: -How my experiences and identity inform my writing -Why empathy is so important to storytelling -(Optional) The steps students can take to writing a novel -Author Q&A Often, I'm asked to put on a workshop rather than (or in addition to) speaking about my experiences. The workshop topics I offer include: -Graphic novel writing: graphic novels have exploded in popularity, and for good reason. This workshop explores what goes into a graphic novel script and allows students the chance to become graphic novelists themselves. -Crafting compelling characters: a deep dive into external and internal character motivations and how they drive the narrative of the story. -Fiction 101 (also known as Creative Writing 101): an overview of fiction writing, covering genre, the types of fiction, and how to write across them with ease. -Non-Fiction 101: a discussion on personal essays, narrative non-fiction, and memoir interspersed with activities to engage audiences in the delight of non-fiction writing.
