About Angela

Angela Shanté, is an award-winning author, poet, and educator whose work explores identity, voice, and the power of storytelling. Her debut young adult novel-in-verse, THE UNBOXING OF A BLACK GIRL, was a finalist for the 2024 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature and named a 2025 Bank Street Best Book of the Year. Angela spent the early years of her career teaching K–12, where she developed a deep passion for literacy and education. Deepening her love of all things words, Angela earned an MFA in Creative Writing and an MSED in literacy. Now based in Southern California, Angela works as an educational consultant and multi-hyphen artist, specializing in creative, educational, and culturally relevant projects for kids, teachers, and organizations.
